Home Helpers Lockport and State Farm Agent Team Up
for Annual Food Drive
Multiple area businesses are drop sites for food to benefit Lockport Food Pantry
Lockport, IL, November 16, 2012 – Home Helpers / Lockport announced today that it is teaming up with Michelle Kokaly’s State Farm Office for an annual food drive to benefit the Lockport Food Pantry, located at 604 E 9th Street, Lockport, Illinois 60441. The effort is already underway and will continue through January 1, 2013.
In its second year, the effort was started by Ed Kerfin, President of Home Helpers / Lockport and co-host of the popular “Friends Over Fifty” show airing from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each Friday on WJOL 1340AM, which is a promotional partner for the drive. Last year’s inaugural drive was a great success, prompting more businesses to step up as drop sites.
“I have been overwhelmed by the need for this program at the holidays,” said Kerfin. “On any given day that the Lockport Food Pantry is open, there is a line of people waiting for help, and this is the least we can do to make sure they have enough food for their families.”
Kerfin’s partner in the effort is Michelle Kokaly, who runs the State Farm office on Bell Road in Homer Glen. Kokaly has made it her mission to collect much-needed breakfast items for the drive, based on feedback she received from the food pantry.
“Believe it or not, there is a real shortage of healthy breakfast items for these families,” said Kokaly. “The first meal of the day is so important, and I wanted to help fill this need by collecting specific items such as cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup and jelly, all of which can be dropped off at my office in Homer Glen.”
Non-perishable foods of all types are being accepted at all of the drop-off locations, which include:
• Home Helpers / Lockport, 15736 Bell Road, Homer Glen, Ill.; (708) 301-4746
• Michelle Kokaly State Farm Agency, 14051 S. Bell Road, Homer Glen, Ill.; (708) 476-8828*
