ISRA Thursday Bulletin – May 12, 2016

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Next week the NRA Annual Meeting will be held in Louisville, Kentucky.  If you can find any way at all to get there, I urge you to do so.  The ISRA will have a booth there; please stop by.  If you have anyone with you who is not an ISRA member, please sign them up.  The dates are May 20, 21 and 22.  See you there!
We are entering the last three weeks of the Illinois General Assembly and it is now in full swing.  I want you to stand by for alerts.  Gun owners are going to be attacked in editorials, press releases and who knows what else.  We must all hang together and not let any faction of gun ownership be picked off.  Any attack on one group of gun owners, is an attack on all gun owners.  This is known as the Farmer Doctrine.
This week it was announced that the United States Army has been diminished to 479,124 people, the lowest since before WWII. Worse, the Army is to be reduced to 450,000 by 2018. The United States Navy is also below our strength since before WWI.  It will take years and billions of dollars to rebuild our strength.  In the meantime, we have the American gun owner, 100,000,000 strong.  In Illinois we have 2,400,993 FOID Card holders and 169,778 CCL’s.  Many of these gun owners are marksmen.  I urge all Illinoisans and all Americans who are not marksmen now, to educate and train themselves to become marksmen at the highest level they can attain because we are going to need them.  I want each of you to be proud of yourself because you are one of the United States’ greatest assets.  No other country has this asset.  We must not let anti-gun politicians destroy American gun ownership.
We have learned that the Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), which is the Mark Kelly – Gabby Giffords anti-gun group, have hired at least six expensive, experienced and high powered lobbyists to promote their anti-gun agenda.  We think the first attempt will be to push a very anti-gun dealer bill through the Illinois Legislature.
I never try to get personal in my columns, but this time I’m going to make an exception.  My wife is a receptionist who works for one of the best groups of neurosurgeons anywhere.  Her office is located along with other medical facilities, including physical therapy facilities, a pain clinic and psychologists.  She sits at the front desk, separated from the outside by two glass doors and a sliding glass window.
Last Friday, one of the doctors received a death threat indicating someone was going to come into the building and shoot him.  The entire building was locked down.  My wife is an Illinois Concealed Carry Licensee, and had her firearm dutifully locked in her car.  She asked if she could get her firearm and was told no because it was against company policy.  I will say several of the doctors came to her defense later.  The Police Department promptly dispatched a car which arrived in about 15 minutes.  I am not going to tell you what I think about all of this, but I am going to let you surmise what that might be.
I stay tuned into a couple of sources which keep me informed about terrorist activities.  A month ago they were talking about terrorist chatter suggesting knife attacks on soft targets.  A couple of these have now come to pass.  There is only one person who can stop these attacks – the intended victim.  Are you ready?
