On August 11, 1924 Republican President Calvin Coolidge stated “I want the people of America to be able to work less for the government and more for themselves. I want them to have the rewards of their own industry. This is the chief meaning of freedom.” Apparently one IL Senator and fifteen IL House “Republicans” who believe themselves wiser and more intelligent than us commoners did not get the memo and voted to raise our taxes. The media along with these sixteen republicans and their leadership I believe operated under a cloak of smoke and mirrors, thus, the time has come to ask some very important questions.
Republicans Steve Andersson, Mike Fortner, Sara Jimenez, Robert Pritchard, Terri Bryant, Norine Hammond, Charles Meier, David Reis, John Cavaletto, David Harris, Christian Mitchell, Michael Unes, CD Davidsmeyer, Chad Hays and Reginald Phillips with Andersson leading the charge, gathered enough votes to raise taxes. We’re all familiar with the Pelosi line “We have to pass the bill to see what’s in it”. How did these folks manage to read a 538 page bill that came out one hour before the vote and vote for it? Why did the House Minority Leader allow a Republican to muster votes for Madigan and how is it that some Democrats who coincidentally are up for reelection vote against it? Republican Senator Radogno suddenly resigned last week. Will Radogno be leaving the state with a pension we are funding or will she stay here and bear the tax burden with us? They justify that tax increases are needed to keep the state operating & soluble. Why does Illinois need more operating money when people & businesses have left the state in droves? The state is said to have a deficit of $9.6 billion from the past ten years. The state raised income, license plate, driver’s license and tollway taxes along with other fees plus the state got $22.3 billion dollars in stimulus money, where did it go?
I hope my fellow citizens will join me in boycotting the Illinois GOP, ask for a federal probe into the stimulus question, demand questions & resignations to clear up this financial and political mess. Illinois Republicans need to be re-schooled on what Independence Day is. Patriotism means to stand by the country and not any party or politician & during this period of uncertainty I chose to stand with my people.
