Batinick to host college financial aid and FAFSA workshop in Plainfield October 3

PLAINFIELD – State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) will host a free seminar on Tuesday October 3 for those interested in learning about college financial aid and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

“This is a good opportunity for students and their families to stop by and pick up some helpful information about the kinds of assistance that are available to help them pay for college,” Batinick said. “I encourage those in college or about to go to college and their families to stop by.”

The workshop will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Plainfield Township Community Center located at 15014 S. Des Plaines in Plainfield. There is no charge and reservations are not necessary. It will include a presentation about the costs of college and what types of financial aid are available.

“I hope we can help local students learn about the options that are available to them when it comes to paying for college,” Batinick said.

To get the most accurate information about what an applicant would be eligible for, those attending the event should bring along some important materials. That includes their most recent tax documents, W-2s or other records of income and the student’s social security number or alien registration number if the student is not a U.S. citizen. If applicable, applicants should also bring banking statements and records of investments or records of any untaxed income. A list of colleges the student is considering applying to would also be helpful. More details about the FAFSA are available at https://fafsa.ed.gov/.
