Deadline Jan. 31 to file as a write-in candidates for April 2 Consolidated Election

JOLIET – Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry reminds those who still are interested in running for a local seat in the upcoming Consolidated Election that the Thursday, Jan. 31 deadline to file as a write-in candidate is fast approaching.

Qualified Will County residents who wish to run for local office but were unable to file nominating petitions in December may still file a Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate. The form must be completed and filed no later than 61 days prior to the April 2 Consolidated Election.

The form can be found by going to thewillcountyclerk.com and clicking on the appropriate link under the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election heading. A Declaration of Intent may be filed in person or mailed to the Will County Clerk’s Office. Mailed declarations must be notarized. The address is:

In order to cast a write-in vote, voters must complete their ballot by darkening the oval to the left of the write-in line and write the candidate’s name on the line provided under the appropriate office on the ballot. Voters must make their intent clear by writing the full name, for example, “Frank Smith” and not just “Smith.”
