Ives To Host Park Forest Property Tax Town Hall

March 15, 2018 – On March 23 at 12:00 p.m., Jeanne Ives, a former state representative and Republican candidate for governor, and Jonathan Vanderbilt, a Park Forest mayoral candidate, will host a town hall to address skyrocketing South Suburban property taxes. The town hall will be held at Park Forest’s Nathan Manilow Theater, 410 Lakewood Blvd. Ives will be joined by Wirepoints.com founder Mark Glennon and newspaper publisher Brian Timpone.

A recent analysis of the second half of 2018 by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News, uncovered that of 331 local suburbs, Park Forest had the highest effective property tax rate over that time at 7.51 percent on a home priced at $45,000 – more than three times the state median average of 2.31 percent, according to WalletHub.com.

“I was thrilled when Jonathan Vanderbilt contacted me to help arrange a town hall on property taxes in the South Suburbs,” said Ives. “While property taxes are high all over the state, these communities have been hit extremely hard. I invited Mark Glennon and Brian Timpone because in addition to being two of the more efficacious property tax analysts in Illinois, they both grew up in the South Suburbs. They are each keenly aware and uniquely concerned about the decimation of communities like Park Forest that were once thriving.”

Brian Timpone is a businessman and publisher who grew up Olympia Fields. His newspaper, South Cook News, recently published an analysis of South Suburban tax rates, entitled Property Tax Round Up: Park Forest Markham Riverdale Harvey Have Highest Tax Bills in Chicago Area.

Mark Glennon is the founder and CEO of Wirepoints.com. Wirepoints produces policy analysis on the state’s fiscal policy. Glennon is a former corporate attorney and venture capitalist who understands bond markets and public pensions  He grew up nearby South Suburban Harvey. Glennon wrote the piece Suicidal Property Tax Rates and the Collapse of Chicago’s South Suburbs.
