CONSTITUTIONAL CONVERSATIONS

Unravelling the Trump-Russia Hoax (continued)

M.E. Boyd, Esq.  Miss Constitution . . . Simply Civics

Last week’s column outlined a two-prong plot by certain actors in the Executive branch of the federal government; along with (possibly) certain actors in the Judicial branch of the federal government; along with certain actors in the Legislative branch of the federal government to illegally influence a Presidential election and then, after that election, to overthrow the unexpected winner.

The Founders of our Constitutional system deliberately created the Separation of Federal Powers Doctrine between the branches and the Checks and Balances Doctrine as oversight over the branches as a way to thwart corruption or seal it off, once found, so that only a portion of the whole is corrupted.

What we have here is the entire Federal Branch of the United States Government compromised by certain actors in each branch and a crisis of our system that I would equate to a patient with sepsis who arrives at the hospital very critically ill.  We might want to look at the situation the way professional medical personnel would look at it.

What would they do?

First, they might want to know if the patient was already in a weakened state.  In other words, how long has this corruption been going on and in what other areas has it spread its infecting poison?  A thorough examination is called for by the various Inspector Generals assigned to this task and then their findings verified independently.

Second, they might want to know if the patient additionally and accidentally came into contact with a very sick spreader of infection or whether the infection was deliberately injected into the system of the patient by some person or persons who sought the patient out.  The answer to this would let us know how deep the investigations need to go and whether foreign entities or the military is involved.  It might lead to the very highest levels of American power.

Where does this leave us?

There is no need to panic.  The patient (country) needs to be stabilized and made comfortable. This can be done through honest public servants; uncorrupted journalists; and a calm public. The secondary infections must all be identified through continuous revelations of truth and harsh consequences for every single infector.  No secondary infections can be left in the body politic however long it takes to root them out.

If it is discovered that there is a primary spreader or injector of corrupting poison in our system we need to leave no stone unturned in finding the source, exposing the source, and correcting the problem. The patient might live, then, but it is a long recovery.  Re-establishing federal governmental trust in the eyes of the public is going to be a monumental task.

Why and how has this happened?

This is my analysis.  Our Constitutional system, emerging from the Enlightenment of the 18th century, has been a target of various ideologies since the mid-19th century.  The period of what is known philosophically as the Enlightenment (the light of reason) was replaced by the emotionalism of Romanticism (the elevation of the subjective) and then Idealism (the elevation of an idea or ideation however unreasonable) that today reflected as a type of Globalism or New World Order. These ideologies are incompatible with our Constitutional Republic.

Basic to our Constitutional system is the honor and virtue of the individual citizen as well as servants of the citizen, or public servants.  This virtue and honor is instilled privately in the foundations of the family and in impartial teaching and in the religious heritage of our culture. Our law does not just consist of statues and administrative rules and even the Constitution itself. It also consists of moral law and the unwritten law of courtesy and comity and the natural law of life, and liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In addition to virtuous citizens and public servants the Founders diffused power between federal and state actors so that concentrated power and its corrupting influence could be lessened.  Just to ensure that the more powerful of those centers of power, the federal government, remained as uncorrupted as possible the doctrines of Separation of Power and Checks and Balances are built in.  It all, however, rests on the assumption that we have virtuous and honorable citizens and virtuous and honorable public servants.

We have always had some corruption in all of government.  It is unavoidable.  But when our national public policies weakened the family, undercut religion, and turned education into an ideological brainwash, virtue became old-fashioned and corruption has infected the body politic.  This process has systematically been going on for decades and decades as the only means by which the United States of America can be moved into ideologies that emphasize the collective and not the individual.  Our system is based on the dignity of the individual and the personal liberty of that individual — within the Rule of Law.

To fix it all is going to take a real attention by the American people.  Right now we just need to get to the bottom of this largest of scandals.  I think the Special Prosecutor knew there was no Trump-Russia conspiracy when he started his investigation.  The “resistance” merely figured out a way to essentially do opposition research for the 2020 Presidential election at taxpayer’s expense and that is why the underlying information in the report is valuable.
