The Will County Republican Central Committee announced the election of Kathy Havel of Naperville as the first female Chair of the Will County Republican Party.
Havel was elected by nearly 100 percent of the elected Will County Republican Precinct Committeemen present at the County Convention, which was held Wednesday at the Joliet Country Club. While records only date to 1980, it appears that Will County GOP has elected its first female Republican Chairman.
Havel graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in health information management. She is a businesswoman, self-employed as an independent contractor, with a sales and management background in health care, government, and manufacturing.
Havel has previously served as Chairman of the Wheatland Township Republican Party. Under her leadership, Wheatland Township ranked first among Republican Townships in the 2014 gubernatorial election. Havel also served as vice chair of the Will County Republican Central Committee. She has also been appointed deputy state central committeeman in the 14th Congressional District. Havel’s chairmanship comes at a time when the Republican primary is the subject of major media focus nationally and much discussion locally.
“My focus has been and will continue to be on finding, recruiting, training and supporting extraordinary people to serve as volunteers, committeemen, and candidates … people who are committed to making a difference in the lives of our constituents,” Havel said. “We must also demand more respectful, responsible, representative government which will protect individual freedoms and strengthen our economy toward a higher quality of life for individuals, families and business owners. In a diverse county rich with special people and special resources, we have tremendous potential to grow and strengthen our organization and our party. We will build upon our successes in Will County with a strong team, representing constituents in all 24 of our unique townships, to win more elections for more Republicans at all levels of government.”
