During her July 28 speech to the DNC, Hillary Clinton said, “I’m not here to take away your guns” and “I’m not here to repeal the 2nd Amendment.”

She has spent the last few months of her campaign trying to refute claims that she will do both if elected.
Standing in front of the DNC, Clinton said she was not going to take guns or repeal the 2nd Amendment but stressed that “the gun lobby” needs to be confronted and that more gun control is needed.

She did not provide specifics, but she hinted toward an “assault weapons” ban when she talked about police officers being “outgunned by criminals.” And she also hinted toward the passage of universal background checks and adding the no-fly list to the NICS system when she said she would work “with responsible gun owners to pass common-sense reforms and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists, and all others who would do us harm.”
Gun Control has been a reoccurring theme throughout he Clinton campaign and in October 2015 she assured voters she would institute new controls by executive fiat if Congress refuses to play along. In addition to her consistent push for an “assault weapons” ban and universal background checks, the new controls Clinton wants include more regulations on gun shows, online sales, and Federal Firearm License holders (FFLs). She has also made it abundantly clear that she wants victims of gun crime to be able to sue gun makers and sellers and she wants to extend the amount of time the FBI has to do a background check, thereby changing checks from instant to indefinite.
On October 16 she also said an Australian-style gun ban was “worth looking at” for gun policy in America.
But at the DNC she assured attendees, “I’m not here to take away your guns.”
