Schilling School fourth-graders were the first to try out the school’s new climbing wall on Sept. 20.
Students enjoy new climbing wall at Schilling School
Thanks to the support and generosity of parent volunteers, Schilling School students are enjoying a new way to build strength and eye-hand coordination.
The school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) purchased a climbing wall for the school, which was installed over the summer by Schilling’s maintenance workers Wally Brown and Mike Haehnlein.
Thanks to the Schilling School PTO, students have another way to work on their upper body strength and eye-hand coordination in P.E. class
On Tuesday (Sept. 20), students had their first chance to try the wall out in their physical education classes.
“It’s cool,” said one student, as she pulled herself along the horizontal wall.
“It’s a little hard,” said another.
The school’s PTO purchased the two 40-foot walls for $12,000. They were installed in the school’s multipurpose room and will be used for physical fitness activities and classroom incentives or rewards.
Schilling School Kindergarten Principal Robert Rounsaville couldn’t resist giving the school’s new climbing wall a try.
“There are so many things you can use it for,” said Schilling Kindergarten Principal Robert Rounsaville.
P.E. teacher Eric Tengstrand, who led the first group of students across the wall on Tuesday, predicts it will be used a lot.
“It’s going to help our students develop upper body strength while improving their eye-hand coordination,” he said.
