Wikileaks releases additional Democratic National Convention bombshells
President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are featured prominently.
#Wikileaks — the organization founded by Julian Assange has again ignited controversy. Following through on his word, Assange’s organization has once again released highly sensitive internal documents from the Democratic National Convention. Assange had made three weeks ago what many considered an outlandish claim regarding supposed information he had access to which if released would be specifically damaging to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
The hacker Guccifer 2.0 is believed to be responsible for securing this stockpile of information. At this time, it is not widely known who the person claiming to be Guccifer 2.0 might be.
Year of the leak
The Democratic National Convention released statements suggesting that it had been the victim of the highly sophisticated crime of digital espionage. They went on to point the finger at currently unnamed “Russian state-sponsored agents.” At this time it is not clear what specific evidence the Democratic National Convention might be referring to in regard to this accusation.
Tension between the United States and Russia continues to escalate. Just a day ago, reports from the Syrian Theater of War indicated that United States Coalition-led forces acting with Australian air support accidentally launched a fatal air strike on Syrian Army positions. Russia, Syria, and the United States have been working together in the region and this accident was immediately decried by Moscow. At this time, this situation is still part of an on-going investigation.
Wikileaks has claimed that the source of the current Democratic National Convention materials came internally from within the #dnc and not as result of any external hack carried out on behalf of Russia. Clearly this is a very tense situation and at the time it is unclear if there are other materials to be released at a later date from this cache.
The plot thickens
The current leaked materials focus largely on what is being labeled a “Pay to Play” scandal involving money exchanged for positions of political authority and influence. This leak lists donors, donation amounts, as well as their connection to high-profile ambassadorships and other United States Federal Government positions.
