Meemic Foundation awards three $100 grants to Homer Junior High teachers
Three Homer Junior High School teachers have a little extra money to spend on classroom projects, thanks to a grant from The Meemic Foundation.
On Sept. 16, Field Consultant Andrew Briick from the Meemic Foundation and Meemic Insurance Company stopped by Homer Junior High to deliver three $100 grants to teachers Diane Blaskey, Jennifer Woods and Leighann Cannon.
The teachers applied for the grants online.
“I am so thankful to receive this grant,” said Blaskey. “It is going to benefit my students, enrich the teaching process and help utilize 21st century technology.”
“I will be able to spend it on much needed school supplies that some of my students cannot afford,” added Woods.
Cannon, who plans to buy math manipulatives with the grant money, said the extra materials will help her students make connections when doing math.
“Manipulatives are proven to help create a deeper understanding of concepts and lead to retention and information,” she said.
Since 1992, The Meemic Foundation for the Future of Education has been supporting education excellence through funding programs and other partnership initiatives.
Created by Meemic Insurance Company and founded as a nonprofit organization, The Meemic Foundation is dedicated to advancing the future of education by offering financial assistance to public, private, parochial and charter schools, as well as colleges and universities. It has been an active partner with the educational community in Illinois since 2014.
“Over the course of two decades, we’ve been pleased to support some truly inspiring educators,” said Briick. “Nearly $2,000,000 has been provided to members of the educational community to support innovative programs, events and projects that have significantly impacted the classroom experience.
“The Meemic Foundation for the Future of Education continues to support the efforts of educators from preschool through higher education,” he continued. “We will always seek to partner with local educational communities to provide additional grant funding opportunities and other needed resources to advance the quality of education.”
