Young School accepts Zoo Crew challenge
To lead healthy lives while raising money for American Heart Association
Young School students are eager to become a “heart hero” and are raising money to fight heart disease.
On Jan. 26, the school launched its annual Jump Rope for Heart campaign, encouraging students to live a healthy lifestyle and raise money for the American Heart Association.
“We are so excited to teach students how to care for their heart while raising lifesaving donations to fight the nation’s #1 killer,” said Young School P.E. teachers Wendy Bruin and Jeff Jonaitis.
To get students started, a representative from the American Heart Association stopped by the school to talk to students about the work they do and why it’s important to eat healthy and exercise.
She was joined by the American Heart Association’s Zoo Crew — a group of loveable characters who encouraged students to eat more fruits and vegetables, choose water over sugary drinks and never smoke.
Students who went online and collected $150 using their online fundraising page went home with Gabby, one of the Zoo Crew members.
“Spread the word about heart health,” Stefani White from the American Heart Association told students. “By doing Jump Rope for Heart, you are helping other people…. You are helping find a solution for heart disease.”
