Individual liberty is too dangerous, too uncomfortable and too inequitable to be tolerated, according to the leftists working overtime to destroy the Bill of Rights. But they ought to be careful what they wish for.
There was a time when the American left was dedicated to protecting civil liberties. But liberals today have become convinced that the rights of all can’t be protected without denying the rights of certain groups of Americans.
Women’s rights can’t be protected if men are permitted to share the same freedoms. Minority prosperity can’t occur unless something is taken from their white counterparts. LGBT equality can’t be achieved unless traditionalists are forced to agree with their lifestyles.
This is all based on the misguided notion that there’s some scarcity of the happiness which our nation’s founding documents promise us all the right to pursue– and unless the traditionally most comfortable are forced to give up their places, the traditionally disenfranchised will never be able to thrive.
This, of course, isn’t true. But it is a handy fallacy for true oppressors looking for a way to force the masses into accepting the idea that everything can be equal for everyone only when no one is permitted to thrive more than other members of the society, regardless of hard work, careful planning or care to cultivate strong family ties beneficial to the continued prosperity of one’s lineage.
Each person born into the world, the modern liberal has been conditioned to believe, should achieve in life the same prosperity as his peer, regardless of whether he was born to parents who worked hard to give him a leg up or worked hard to build prosperity himself if they didn’t.
Those who dare argue for meritocracy and against the aforementioned idea, are now swiftly subject to the heckler’s veto.
But for all the trouble leftist groups now go to silence opinions different than their own, they provide very little information about what it is they actually hope to achieve with their demonstrations.
They want total equality in all things, regardless of background or ability, yet they never explain what that might look like or how it will work. They want all positions open to all people regardless of qualification, yet they never provide a plan for how the less qualified will carry out the responsibilities of those positions.
There’s also the problem that they haven’t a single example of the sort of utopian society they wish to create actually working for the good of all people in all of human history.
Whether they’ll say it outright or not, what the leftists are asking for is a form of communism. And like millions before them tricked into believing communism was the answer, they’re unwilling to consider the reality that there will always be people who manipulate the system for their own gain. There will always be haves and have-nots. And there will always be bloodshed to achieve the will of the haves.
Really, the primary difference between free society and the type of society the leftists are currently wishing to create is that communism has far fewer haves than have-nots.
And the only thing that prevents the few from lording over the many is the threat of violent upheaval from the masses. That’s why the 2nd Amendment was written into the nation’s Constitution.

If the irrationals currently shutting down debate on college campuses throughout the nation and calling for the abolition of all firearms have their way, they will achieve a sort of equality. We’ll all be equally oppressed by those who remain armed and who will control all of the people’s resources.
