President Trump Approves Emergency Declaration for California Wildfires
Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of California and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by wildfires beginning on October 8, 2017, and continuing.
While in California on Tuesday, Vice President Mike Pence received a briefing at the Sacramento Office of Emergency Services on the California wildfires. “To California, we say through this declaration: We are with you, our prayers are with you, and we will be with you every day until we put the fires out and stand with these families to rebuild these communities. That’s our pledge to each one of you today,” said the Vice President.

First Lady Melania Trump Visits Infant Recovery Center for Prenatal Drug Exposure
Yesterday, First Lady Melania Trump traveled to West Virginia to visit Lily’s Place, the Nation’s first nonprofit infant recovery center for prenatal drug exposure. The First Lady was joined by Kellyanne Conway, Senior Counselor to the President, and Dr. Elinor McCance-Katz, Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use at the Department of Health and Human Services. All three participated in a roundtable discussion with staff followed by a tour of the facility.
The First Lady stated, “It is my hope that we can find ways to create more of the opportunities afforded by places like Lily’s Place, so that we can continue to help infants and children grow into happy, healthy adults.”

Pittsburgh Penguins Visit the White House
On Tuesday, President Trump proudly welcomed the 2017 Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, to the East Room of the White House. The President entered the cheering room with First Lady Melania Trump and Penguins co-owners Ron Burkle and Mario Lemieux. President Trump commended the Penguins, stating they “embody the values of dedication, discipline, and hard work,” and praised those same qualities in the first responders aiding both in the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting and the fires consuming Northern California.
