Rep. Welter to focus on quality of life issues, economic opportunity for families & students as he begins new term
SPRINGFIELD – State Representative David Allen Welter, R-Morris, was sworn in for his second full term on Wednesday, joining all 118 members of the Illinois House of Representatives for the inauguration of the 101st General Assembly held at the Sangamon Auditorium. Welter has represented Illinois’ 75th District since July 2016 serving portions of Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle and Will Counties.
“In this new year, I will work to find common ground with our new Governor on needed changes to create jobs, strengthen schools and enact meaningful and lasting property tax relief,” Welter said. “Illinois presently ranks second in the nation for people leaving for lower taxes and better opportunities elsewhere. Our first and most immediate priority in 2019 should be to reverse this trend by making Illinois more competitive for job creators and more affordable for families and seniors.”
“We also need to do a better job of keeping our best and brightest students in Illinois after graduation,” Welter added. “Whether they choose to pursue a college education, attend a trade school, or are starting their career in today’s job market, we have to make Illinois a place of opportunity for everyone.”
The House of Representatives for the new 101st General Assembly is comprised of 74 Democrats and 44 Republicans. Representative Michael J. Madigan of Chicago was re-elected Speaker of the House for another two-year term. Representative Jim Durkin of Western Springs was re-elected Minority Leader.
Prior to his appointment to the Illinois General Assembly, Welter served as Chairman of the Grundy County Board, to which he was first elected in 2010. His private sector experience includes work as the Human Resources & Procurement Manager for a local trucking and construction equipment company. Welter is also currently a licensed real estate agent practicing in Morris.
