Thanks to the pro-growth policies of the Trump Administration, our economy is thriving:
- GDP grew 3.1% from the Q4 of 2017 to the Q4 of 2018 – the fastest growth in 13 years.
- In 2018, more than 2.6 million jobs were created. There are more job openings than people looking for work.
- Unemployment rate at or below 4% for the 12th straight month – the longest streak in almost 50 years.
- Workers are flooding back into the labor market.
- 7th straight month of 3% or better wage growth.
- Deregulation at a record pace, which has unleashed our economic and energy potential.
- In 2018, Federal agencies issued 12 deregulatory actions for every new significant regulatory action, saving $23 billion in regulatory costs.
As we are reaping the benefits of the Trump economy, a recent CNN poll found 71% of voters say our economy is in good shape – the highest approval since February 2001. Key highlights of the poll:
- The poll showed a majority give President Trump positive reviews for his handling of the nation’s economy – 51%.
- A plurality say their personal financial situation is better off today than it was when President Trump took office.
- The poll showed 7 in 10 Americans have more trust in the free market than in the government – up from 2011.
- Democrats’ trust in markets also increased (from 55% to 61%) as well as independents’ trust increased (from 65% to 78%) since the Great Recession.
- Thanks in part to President Trump’s record of success, his approval rating continues to tick upward – 42% in the CNN Poll.
As Americans continue to give a stamp of approval on the Trump economy, Democrats are pushing for costly government programs like the $93 trillion Green New Deal, a government takeover of our healthcare system, and government-guaranteed jobs.
The President’s economic agenda is working for all Americans. Why would we want to reverse course on this success?
DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos Gives Cover To Her Democratic Colleagues Pushing Hateful & Extreme Rhetoric
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos of Illinois’ 17th Congressional District chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the political arm of the U.S. House Democratic Caucus. As one of her caucus’s leaders, Bustos has said they “hold our own accountable” when they fall out of line, yet on one occasion, Bustos downplayed anti-Semitic tropes made by a Democratic colleague.
But it doesn’t end there. Bustos has consistently remained silent as her Democratic colleagues continue to push extreme rhetoric. Members of the House Democratic caucus have trivialized the Holocaust, said Israel is “evil,” claimed Jewish Americans hold a dual loyalty to Israel, compared President Trump to Hitler and the Klu Klux Klan, and said Trump supporters are uneducated drug addicts and alcoholics.
Over 139,000 of Bustos’ constituents voted for President Trump in 2016, a plurality of those voting for president in her district. As her fellow liberal Democrats spew absurd and hateful rhetoric toward the president and others, Bustos has downplayed their rhetoric or remained silent altogether, giving them cover to continue.
As leader of the DCCC, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has a duty to speak out when her fellow Democrats go too far. Bustos’ ambivalence is an insult to her constituents and allows her caucus to tilt even further to the Left.
J.B. Pritzker Already Changing His Rhetoric On His Plan To Raise Taxes
Think Big Illinois, a dark money political front group backed by Pritzker, is out with its first TV ad highlighting Pritzker’s jobs tax. The ad says, “97% of Illinoisans WILL NOT see an income tax increase.”
Barely two weeks into his tax hike plan, Pritzker has already broken his promise to middle class families.
When Governor J.B. Pritzker announced his plan to raise taxes on Illinois families and small businesses, he spuriously claimed that 97% of Illinoisans will see “tax relief” under his plan.
Pritzker’s change in rhetoric is further proof that his jobs tax proposal is nothing more than a blank check for Pritzker and Madigan to raise taxes on anyone, at any time, for any reason.
First, Pritzker’s plan was “tax relief.” Now, it’s “not…an income tax increase.” What will Pritzker’s plan be tomorrow? A tax hike on everyone.
Unless Pritzker and Madigan are putting their tax rates into the constitution, voters will not actually be voting on Pritzker’s proposed tax rates in his so-called ‘fair tax’ plan. They will be voting on whether or not Pritzker and Madigan should have a blank check to raise tax rates to any level they want.
We all know Springfield politicians have squandered taxpayer dollars for decades. J.B. Pritzker and Mike Madigan cannot be trusted with a blank check to spend even more of your hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
State Senator Chapin Rose
Today’s Republican of the Week is State Senator Chapin Rose of Mahomet. Senator Rose has represented Illinois’ 51st State Senate District since 2013 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives. An attorney, Senator Rose was a Senior Assistant State’s Attorney in Champaign County. Senator Rose has consistently received awards from the Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois’ small business community for his work in supporting pro-agriculture and pro-job creation policies in Springfield. Senator Rose has always been a strong advocate for taxpayers. Currently, he is fighting against Illinois Democrats’ attempts to levy the first-in-the-nation statewide bag tax. One estimate says the Democrat bag tax would cost the average Illinois family $75/year. Illinois Democrats might think that’s chump change, but Senator Rose knows that taxes and fees add up over time, and that hardworking Illinois families need meaningful tax relief, not tax hikes. Senator Rose, also sits on the governing body of the Illinois Republican Party. Rose is the State Central Committeeman for the 15th Congressional District. He was elected to the position by Republican precinct committeemen last year. Senator Rose is committed to turning Illinois “Red” by sending more pro-taxpayer, pro-reform Republicans to Springfield and Washington, D.C.
