Will County Board Member Steve Balich: ‘I really enjoy being a board member’

Steve Balich, who was elected as a Will County board member in 2012, says he feels the position helps him better the lives of people in the county.

“I really enjoy being a board member,” he told the Will County Gazette. “I feel like I do make a difference standing for principals that better the life of people in not only my district but the county.”

Balich says he believes in less government, taxes and regulations.

“As taxes increase home value decreases,” he said. “Regulations are a big problem. I would hope by keeping taxes and regulations down in my part of the world, people would not want to move to another city or state.”

As a board member for Will County, Balich has worked on passing many resolutions and ordinances.

“Two accomplishments that have [had] a huge impact on people are making it illegal to use aerial photos to initiate building code violations and giving people who had their cars towed their money back for towing, storage and administration if they are found innocent in court,” he said.

Balich has held various roles prior to joining the Will County board. Among those have been clerk and trustee for Homer Township, head cook and inventory control coordinator for the Will County Sheriff Department, a truck driver and real estate broker. Besides being a board member, Balich also serves as a Forest Preserve Commissioner for Will County.

Balich volunteers for a number of organizations including Homer Lockport Tea Party, Will County Tea Party Alliance, Homer Founders Club, St. Joseph’s Club of Homer Glen and Conservative Committeeman Project.

Balich was born in Chicago and currently lives in Homer Glen. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from St. Xavier University. His minor was in psychology with an emphasis on elementary education. He also has associates degrees in business and early childhood development from Moraine Valley Community College. Additionally, he is three classes short from receiving a master’s degree in health science from Governors State University.
