Chicago – August 19, 2019 – Total Living Network (TLN) was pleased to participate in Comcast’s announcement of its largest ever expansion of Internet Essentials in Chicago.
David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Comcast NBCUniversal made the announcement at the Austin Library Branch of the Chicago Public Library (CPL) on August 16, 2019. Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot joined Mr. Cohen, as well as Olympic Gold Medalists Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando, ambassadors and spokespeople for Comcast’s corporate values initiatives, CPL Commissioner Andrea Telli and other members of Comcast’s corporate and regional executive teams.
Internet Essentials is the nation’s largest, most comprehensive and most successful broadband adoption initiative. Comcast has introduced new eligibility guidelines which will make the program available to all families who qualify for government assistance programs.
“The Internet is arguably the most important technological innovation in history, and it is unacceptable that we live in a country where millions of families and individuals are missing out on this life-changing resource,” said Mr. Cohen.
“Comcast’s Internet Essentials program for low-income families has benefitted individuals at my church Greater St. John’s Baptist Church in the Chicago Austin neighborhood. Kids can complete their schoolwork, their parents and adults can search for employment and stay current with important news and developments,” said Reverend Ira J. Acree.

To apply for the Internet Essentials program, low-income applicants need to show they are participating in one of more than a dozen different government assistance programs. A full list can be found at www.internetessentials.com. To date, the program has connected more than 95,000 homes presenting approximately 380,000 people in Chicago.
