For Immediate Release
Ives Statement On COVID-19
March 13, 2020 – As concern over the outbreak and impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to grow, Jeanne Ives released the following statement:
I know many in my district are feeling anxious as we hear reports of cases of coronavirus, or have plans cancelled out of public health concerns. We all have a role to play in ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our families and communities. I am generally encouraged that the response from government, as well as the scientific and medical communities has been pragmatic. And I would reiterate the CDC recommendations to use common sense precautions, such as:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or a sleeve.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people that are sick.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60-95% alcohol if washing your hands with soap and water is not an option.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects in your home such as TV remotes, cell phones and computers.
As always, crisis reveals our vulnerabilities and opportunities to improve our health care and emergency response systems. I look forward to working on those issues when elected to Congress. Americans have always found ways to overcome the challenges with which we are confronted. I know the coronavirus will be no different. I have confidence in those working to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, and in the ability of the people in Illinois’ 6th District to make decisions that will help keep their families, schools and communities safe and healthy.
