Infections might be MUCH HIGHER than we thought… and that’s good! A new paper offers a theory based on CDC surveillance data of “influenza-like illness” that matches the observed coronavirus hospitalizations and deaths… but looks VERY different from the conventional models driving policymaking. They estimate the actual number of infections in the population is 100x to 1000x the confirmed number, which implies the death rate is that much lower. It would mean rather than a potential killer of millions this would be more like an extra flu season, except crammed into a few weeks (with a real risk of hospital overload, although New York looks like it’s holding up) instead of spread out over months. Czech It Out: Another Country Begins To Open Up The Czech Republic suffered under Communism for 40 years, so they know something about living under suffocating conformity. Perhaps that’s why they’ve joined Austria, Denmark and Norway in starting to lift the strict “shelter in place” rules. Starting this past Tuesday, residents were allowed cycle, jog, and hike without face masks if they maintained a six-foot distance from others. Tennis courts and golf courses are open again. Stores will start reopening today with an additional wave planned for next week. This doesn’t mean the government isn’t closely monitoring the virus. Infected people will be asked permission by the government to use data from their cell phone and credit cards to track their contacts and the state of emergency has been extended to April 30. Now along comes Ezekiel Emanuel, one of the architects of Obamacare, and this doctor prescribes up to 18 months of lockdown. “We’re not going to get rid of this, or be past it, or return to full normalcy until that vaccine is available,” he told Yahoo Finance. “And for the general public, you might get a lot of doses available in Q3, Q4 2021,” Emanuel predicted. “That’s the timeline, and that’s what people have to get into their head.” In other words, we can open up sometime around Christmas – of 2021! 5.
