President Trump and the Administration are committed to delivering 21st century mental health treatment. In partnership with States, the Trump Administration has granted 27 State institution for mental disease (IMD) exclusion Medicaid waivers for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and recently granted the first serious mental illness (SMI) and/or serious emotional disturbance Medicaid waiver to Washington, D.C. with several States expected to follow soon. In December 2019, President Trump attended the White House Summit on Transforming Mental Health Treatment to Combat Homelessness, Violence, and Substance Abuse.
