Grundy/Kendall Counties placed in new region in Restore Illinois plan
MORRIS – State Representative David Allen Welter, R-Morris, issued the following statement today after Governor JB Pritzker announced actions to combat the resurgence of COVID-19 in Illinois, including the creation of new regions under his Restore Illinois Plan that move Grundy County and Kendall County out of the same region as Chicago and instead place them with similar neighboring Illinois counties including LaSalle and Livingston in the North-Central Region:
“Today’s announcement is a huge win for residents of Grundy County and Kendall County as we strive to build on the actions we’ve taken to protect public health in our communities since the spring. I launched a petition drive back in May when the Governor’s reopening plan put Grundy and Kendall in the same region as Chicago, placing our local economy under restrictions that would not be lifted until the City of Chicago and Cook County met the established public health criteria in terms of COVID-19 mitigation. Over 4,400 local families signed my petition in the ensuing days. Today’s announcement by the Governor shows that the people’s voices made a difference. We are committed to combating a resurgence of COVID-19 and the actions announced by the Governor today are a step in the right direction for our efforts locally.”
In addition, Will County has been placed in a separate region together with Kankakee County moving forward. Both counties were previously included in the Chicago region under the Governor’s initial plan. Please contact Representative Welter’s district office at (815) 416-1475 with any questions.
