| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 21st, 2020 State Senate Candidate Thomas McCullagh of District 49 asks how voters are expected to trust a hypocrite like Meg Loughran Cappel. Cappel’s official campaign website stresses her priority to fight corruption in Springfield, but if she is unable to fight corruption on the campaign trail she will not be able to fight it in Springfield. Unlike many others in her party, Meg has not called for Speaker Madigan to resign amid the ComEd scandal in which he allegedly took bribes in exchange for unnecessarily raising energy rates that cost Illinois residents an additional $20 Billion since 2011. That is the definition of corruption. Furthermore, she has turned a blind eye to the sexual harassment culture in Springfield because she did not want to upset her party bosses. She has also remained silent on the rape coverup that this culture has lead to where Madigan gave the individual who helped cover up the rape a state job and a $2.0 million pension. Silence about corruption and sexual harassment is not what we need in Springfield, but that is exactly what we would get with Meg Loughran Cappel. Instead of allowing Mike Madigan to continue to take advantage of tax payers and silence women, Meg should return all the money that she has received from Madigan and his associates. “Meg Loughran Cappel not seeking Madigan’s resignation and not returning the Madigan money she has received is a betrayal of the public trust.
