Miss Constitution Analyzes. . . Day 62 of the Presidential Election Crisis
Amen. . . The Rule of Law. . . Survival of the Nation
Miss Constitution is unamused at the sacrilegious display at the swearing-in of new House members yesterday. I would remind all that the reason we have Chaplains in the House and Senate is to remind members and staff that their duty is not to themselves and their families when sitting in Chambers but to the public good. We ask God’s blessing of these elected Representatives of the People and we ask also that their motives be pure, that their ordinary inclinations toward self be put aside, and that they remember that they serve not only those they represent but God, as well. Our Republic is fragile; our institutions disrespected and crumbling before our very eyes, and yet we are called upon to endure the ultimate insult to the God we ask to Bless us. “Amen” is not “A woman.” It is a Hebrew term for “So be it.” I would remind you that one of the songs we all learned as children goes like this, with translation:
My country ’tis of thee (Because of you, God)
Sweet land of Liberty
To Thee (God) we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s Holy (sacred) light
Protect us by Thy (God’s) might
Great God our King.
The Founders, especially Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, knew that without the humility that belief in a higher power requires of individuals, human depravity and passion and corruption can take hold in the hearts and minds of people, and soil even the most sincere efforts at ordered Liberty. That the Speaker of the House would allow such a thing is beyond Miss Constitution’s comprehension.
Miss Constitution would remind us, also, that the Rule of Law is what separates the “civil” from the chaotic; what causes the fervent to forgo the violent; and what, since Greek times, has been one of the pillars of Western Civilization. If you visit the Supreme Court in Washington, DC, you will see Lady Justice blindfolded to symbolize equal protection under the law. In our system of Justice, that one committed a statutory crime does not imply that one committed a second statutory and similar crime. No; proof must begin anew beyond a reasonable doubt. This is painstaking; this is time-consuming; but this is our Rule of Law and it has served us well, although imperfectly. Relative to the current allegations of election fraud now before us, the same principle holds true.
That the Law has not always been equally applied in our society is not an excuse to avoid applying it to a particular case, now. It appears to Miss Constitution that many Courts in our country are afraid to exercise the public duty they have been appointed or elected to do. That black Americans have suffered disenfranchisement in the past is not a reason not to examine alleged election fraud that might now disqualify some number of votes in black majority communities. If there was election fraud in 2020 that can be rationally proved then there was election fraud. Period. The remedy is set by statute. Justice is blind. For any Court, and especially the Supreme Court of the United States to be afraid of the consequences of their ruling and not the importance of following the Rule of Law is cowardly. It also removes the blindfold from Lady Justice and creates “situational” Justice which is actually no Justice at all. What follows when there is no Law, Miss Constitution fears we may find out soon enough. An evidentiary hearing to determine the Truth regarding the 2020 Presidential election must be held immediately in a forum properly created for that purpose or the Rule of Law itself ceases to exist. That it is hard to do or that public servants are intimidated or fearful is not the measure of their public service.
While the public is consumed with election matters, China continues to bore into our society in such a profound way that our very existence is now in question. Various cultural exchanges with China, that sound good on the surface, are really spy operations or mitigating operations relative to questions that might be asked of the Communist Chinese Party and their designs on our Republic. The Chinese-United States Exchange amounts to a silencing of CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, MSNBC, NBC, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and other news outlets regarding Chinese actions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, its nuclear weapons program, and other dangerous moves. China uses Wolf-Warrior tactics all over the world with monies we created for them. COVID-19 is but a small taste of what might come our way as another bioweapon. Miss Constitution calls for a timeout with China until we know exactly what we are dealing with and what Americans and American institutions have been compromised. Consulates should be closed. Confucius Centers at Universities and Colleges should be closed. All cultural exchanges should be suspended. Our military preparedness should be studied and addressed. Alliances of strength with other nations should be acknowledged and heightened. The President has suspended some trading on the New York Stock Exchange regarding companies with connections to the Chinese military. This is a start only.
There is a connection, in Miss Constitution’s opinion, between our nation’s reliance and belief in God and His Watch over us; in following fearlessly the Rule of Law; and in being clear-eyed about the intentions of a Communist nation without scruples. As Rudyard Kipling tells us in a Recessional written in 1897:
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget, lest we forget!
