The Illinois Opportunity Project is currently working on defeating the “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Standard” rule currently being proposed in JCAR committee in Springfield. Instead of focusing on helping students, this rule would inject political ideology into school’s curriculum.
As you may know, the vote is on the 16th and we need 8 votes to stop it. We have 6 Republican “no” votes and need to convince 2 Democrats to also vote “no.”
We’ve targeted 4 democratic committee members we think might be persuadable. We have started to make phone calls to voters in these districts and are encouraging them to contact their state representative or state senator and voice their opposition to the bill. Please email Field Organizer Michael DeLazzer at michaeldelazzer@illinoisopp.org if you would like to get involved.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
