OAK LAWN, IL – Wednesday, May 19th, Robert Cruz, 42, of Oak Lawn, declared his candidacy for the GOP nomination for the United States Senate. Cruz is a general contractor and real estate investor who focuses on revitalizing struggling neighborhoods.
“I’m thrilled and honored to announce my bid for the Republican Party nomination for the U.S. Senate,” said Cruz, who recently filed the necessary paperwork for his candidacy. “We’re at a crossroad in this state. As the recent Census showed, Illinois is shedding people and businesses at an ever-growing rate due to the anti-business, anti-family climate created by Tammy Duckworth and her Democrat cronies. I’m running to put a stop to that and make Illinois a place people and businesses want to live and invest in.”
I’ve been a general contractor in the real estate market for more than 17 years and understand the challenges small business owners face today in Illinois. With Washington spending far beyond its means, small businesses, the greatest generators of wealth and opportunity in the nation, are bearing the burden. I will work for the residents and small business owners of this state and not against them.”
A married father of an elementary school-age daughter, Cruz said he will prioritize making schools more equitable by supporting teachers, students, and parents. He’s currently serving a four-year term on the Oak Lawn Community High School Dist. 229 school board.
“What our children are taught will guide them as they mature into adulthood,” Cruz said. “ I will work tirelessly to get the funding and backing Illinois schools need to maintain the focus on the fundamentals: Reading, writing, arithmetic, and problem-solving skills. I will also work to provide taxpayers a level-playing field when it comes to property taxes. We are the second-highest taxed state in the nation, and what have we gotten for it – nothing! I’m running to change that.”
