Will County Poised to Receive $6.3 Million for Infrastructure
Road improvements will improve safety and flow of goods
JOLIET – The Will County Board is pleased to announce that three major infrastructure projects are included in the federal infrastructure improvement bill currently working its way through Congress.
“Government works best when we work together,” said Speaker of the Will County Board Mimi Cowan (Naperville). “The County has been working hand-in-glove with our congressional representatives to ensure that the people of Will County have a seat at the table when it comes to federal infrastructure spending.”
The three projects included in the draft legislation are $1.5 million requested by Congressman Rush for improvements on 80th Avenue from 191st to 183rd Street, $2.7 million requested by Congressman Foster for improvements to Gougar Road from Laraway Road to Francis Road, and $2.1 million requested by Congresswoman Newman and Congressman Foster for improvements to Weber Road from 135th Street to Airport Road.
Sustained economic and population growth in the county has placed stress on existing roadways. The improvements included in the transportation and infrastructure bill will make roadways safer for residents while improving the transportation of goods throughout the country.
“The doors of communications are open, and we continue to work with our Representatives to ensure that they know exactly what our residents need in Will County,” said County Board Legislative and Judicial Committee Chair Denise Winfrey (Joliet).
Winfrey, who is also the incoming First Vice President of the National Association of Counties, said that Will County is looking for funding at all levels of government for critical infrastructure needs facing the County including at the state level and she thanked Foster, Rush, and Newman for listening to the needs of residents.
While the draft legislation still needs final approval, County Board members are hopeful that these projects will be approved.
“Will County’s population and economy continue to grow,” said County Board Minority Leader Mike Fricilone (Homer Glen). “Will County is home to the largest inland port in the country so these improvements are not only good for us locally, they will have important ramifications at the national level also.”
