Mark Gawron, acting for the Homer Twp. Republicans was asked to find out if Lockport H.S. is teaching Critical Race Theory or 1619 project or any part of it under another name. Mark has done an excellent job in getting the information sifted through. Zyan Navara a LTHS School Board Member is a tremendous help since he supplied the information Mark needed to come up with his conclusion. Mark said:
“First, I’d like to thank Zyan for his help in locating a detailed LTHS curriculum. I studied this 73 page document, and I cannot find any trace of the teachings of Critical Race Theory or the 1619 Project.
I did identify several courses relating to US History and World History and asked Zyan to find the reading material that is assigned to these courses. Zyan is in the process of finding the required reading for me. The course descriptions do not identify CRT or 1619, but the assigned reading will provide additional information.
I would distribute this course curriculum (with the caveat that Zyan mentioned that it is not yet “final”) to all parents and concerned citizens of our County. I’d ask them to review it for themselves. I’s urge them to ask their children what is being taught to them if they select these courses at LTHS.”
