BALICH SCHOOLS THE 205 SCHOOL BOARD ON COOKIE DOUGH
Steve Balich, and over two dozen concerned parents and students, delivered passionate public comments at the August 2nd Special meeting of the district 205 School Board. The issue was CHOICE. Putting the choice of wearing masks in the hands of the parents and students, or mandating mask wearing all day, every day for the upcoming school year. The Superintendent was proposing a procedure which included mask mandates and medical testing. This is an obvious reaction to the CDC’s recent “guidelines” supposedly based on science.
Steve took a swipe at the CDC’s credibility with a humorous example involving of all things, cookie dough. The CDC actually has issued a “guideline” suggesting that eating cookie dough from a bowl is hazardous to our health!!! This is the same agency that now recommends a similarly ludicrous “guideline” to mask-up our nation.
Parent after parent, and a few students spoke with passion, heart, soul, and, yes, anger to a School Board that looked bored and disinterested. Parents were asking for the right to make the decision on student-by-student basis. They were asking the School Board to give them the right of choice. Some of the parents came loaded with statistics, data, and facts, but in this political climate, all of that obviously does not matter. Thunderous applause broke out after every public comment from the 100+ that attended the Board meeting. The Board called for a 5-minute recess, and when they returned, they denied the remainder of the public from speaking out…. Instead, the Superintendent took the podium and droned on for almost an hour with bureaucrat-speak from an over-bloated PowerPoint deck. Then your Board voted 5-2 in favor of a mask mandate. Just like that, no freedom of choice in District 205.
The most powerful statements came from parents that looked each Board member in the eyes and told them that if they pass this mask mandate, they would be pulling their children out of the Public School System… and they MEANT IT. What will the School Board or Teachers Unions do if the classrooms this year are half empty? Funding is tied to attendance. There are so many other options to educate our children. The US Public School System are producing students that rank, on average, 27th in the world! Let that settle in.
We want you, the parents, and taxpayers, to know just who voted for this mask mandate. Here they are… 3 of them up for re-election in April of 2023. It’s hard to recognize them without masks! Print this picture and put it on your note board or refrigerator. The next election is not that far away.
