School Improvement Day enables teachers to meet, share strategies

Homer 33C math teachers (grades 5-8) meet to discuss content area articulation during a half-day School Improvement Day on Sept. 16.

By releasing students three hours early on Sept. 16, Homer School District 33C teachers were able to come together and work on grade level or content area articulation.

They met in groups throughout the district and discussed everything from curriculum maps and curricular resources to formative assessment and professional development opportunities.

Homer 33C second-grade teachers meet at Young School to discuss grade level articulation on Sept. 16.
“It is exciting to see the passion our teachers exhibit during the district teacher articulation days,” said Kathleen Robinson, assistant superintendent for instruction. “This is their time to talk about their instruction and high level strategies they use to engage students in the learning process.”

Facilitating each group meeting was a building principal, assistant principal, dean or district administrator. The school nurses also met as a collective group.

The next half-day School Improvement Day will be Oct. 7.
