5Essentials Survey now open
Weigh in on your child’s school at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/
Homer Community Consolidated School District 33C students, parents and teachers are asked to go online to complete a 20-minute survey.

The survey will be used to identify strengths and weaknesses at each school and guide improvement.

“We encourage all of our Homer 33C teachers and parents to take this important 5Essentials Survey, as well as our students in grades 6-8,” said Kathleen Robinson, assistant superintendent for instruction. “It will help us determine what we do well as a district and in what areas we want to set goals in.”

Students (grades 6-8 only) will take the survey during school. Parents may opt to exclude their child from the survey by returning a survey notification slip, which will be sent home with each child in advance.

Survey questions are available for parental viewing on the 5Essentials site.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered annually throughout the State of Illinois and provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environment
  • Ambitious Instruction

Research shows that schools that are strong in at least three of these “5Essential” indicators are 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that are weak in three or more Essentials.

This year’s survey is administered on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago.

Survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to a specific child or parent.

Results will be shared with district administrators in May. The public will have an opportunity to view the results on the 2017 State School Report Card website.

The deadline to complete the 5Essentials Survey is Jan. 16. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to complete the survey. Just select the appropriate survey to begin.
