The Nutcracker battles with the Mouse King at Friday’s third-grade performance of “The Nutcracker.”

Goodings Grove 3rd graders delight friends, family with holiday classic
Perform The Nutcracker at school musical

Goodings Grove third-graders took center stage Dec. 16 to perform a holiday classic for friends and family.

Goodings Grove third-graders entertain parents with a Russian dance during a performance of “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 16.

Led by the school’s music teacher, Heidi Van De Voort, students proudly sang a concert medley version of The Nutcracker in the school gymnasium.

Students embraced their roles, wearing party dresses and costumes. Some were dressed as mice while others were dressed as tin soldiers, sugar plums, Russian dancers, Chinese dancers and flowers.

Goodings Grove third-graders conclude their performance of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 16.

The Nutcracker is a piece of great cultural and historical significance,” said Van De Voort, who began working with students several weeks ago.

She not only taught students the songs they sang but a little bit about The Nutcracker’s composer, Piotr Tchaikovsky.

“None of this would be possible without our Board of Education and their commitment to the arts,” Principal Ann Christie told parents at the end of the show.

Students proudly presented Van De Voort with a bouquet of flowers, telling her: “Thank you so much for all your hard work. We appreciate all you have done.”
