Homer Junior High recognizes student achievement, accomplishments
 
Homer Junior High students, staff and parents have a lot to be proud of — both academically and athletically.
 
On Friday (March 31), the school recognized students for their achievements in the classrooms, on the athletic fields and in the field of art and music during a school assembly.
 
“We want to acknowledge the great things going on here at Homer Junior High,” said Principal Troy Mitchell.
 
Among those recognized were:

  • The school’s Jazz Band
  • The school’s Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) qualifiers
  • 18 choir students who were selected to perform at Carnegie Hall this summer
  • The school’s Spelling Bee winner and runner-up
  • The school’s Geography Bee winner and runner-up
  • History Club members who competed in the Northern Illinois Regional History Fair and earned Superior or Excellent ratings
  • Students who participated in the State Special Olympics Basketball Tournament and placed 3rd
  • Recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Student Technology Award through Infinitec
  • The school’s 8th grade girls basketball team, which took 3rd in State at the IESA State Tournament
  • The school’s wrestling team, which took 2nd in State at the IESA State Tournament out of 136 teams
  • The 7th grade volleyball team, which finished 2nd in State at the IESA State Series out of 288 competing schools
  • Student athletes who qualified for State
