Mustang Buddies “step up” to ease fears
Take soon-to-be middle schoolers on tour of school
Transitioning from elementary school to middle school can be a little scary.
To help ease fears and prepare students for the “big move,” Hadley Middle
School students have been taking groups of fourth-graders on a tour of their
school this week.

“You will do a lot of cool things in here,” a Hadley fifth-grader told a group
of students from Young School on Thursday (May 18).
Students visited the school library, STEAM lab, multi-purpose room (where
lunch is served), gymnasium, chorus room, art rooms and main office. They
also saw where the bathrooms are located and where they may be meeting
with the school’s speech therapists, occupational therapists and counselors.
Every year, the Mustang Buddies take the lead on Step Up Day and show
incoming 5th graders what to expect in middle school. They show them
around the school (which is significantly larger than their grade schools) and
answer questions they have about middle school life. hadley step up day 052.JPG
The goal is to make students more comfortable with the move from grade
school to middle school.
“We want to help take away the anxiety,” said Hadley Middle School
Principal Kristen Schroeder. “We want to get them excited about coming
here.”
