Will County Republican Party Expresses Concern for Election Process in 2020

March 17th, 2020, was an important Primary Election date for Republican and Democrat candidates.

We had the opportunity to choose our respective party nominees for the General Election. Even though the scare of the contagion, COVID-19, kept a lot of Republicans at home, some people still saw it as their patriotic duty to brave the elements and to cast their ballots in person.

Elections are so imperative, even Gov. Pritzker yielded to the U.S. and State Constitutions to allow election day to go forward, despite the grumblings and pushback from the Chicago Board of Elections and other politicos. For that I applaud the governor. Ballot access is the American way. It is our vision that all parties have fair and equal access to pick their chosen candidates.

Gov. Pritzker and a few others have decided to shut down the state with a 15-Day Shelter-In-Place order. In light of that decision, I cannot help but ask, “What process have they put into place to ensure Independent, Constitutional and Green Party candidates will have the same just access to collect enough signatures to be on the ballot?” “How can they go door-to-door under these current restrictions?” “How can they host in-person events to obtain registered voters signatures and voice their stances?”

Social media has seen fit to control all political narratives. The cost of conventional media is too expensive if you cannot meet with people to raise funds.

Tuesday, March 24th, is the first day to circulate nomination papers for independent candidates and new political party candidates who file in between June 15 – 22, 2020 (90 days preceding the last day to file nomination papers 10 ILCS 5/10-4, 10-6). They must collect double the amount of signatures that the two established parties have already filed. The law is clear. Unfortunately, the current one-party rule in Illinois offers no solutions. I hope you will give our candidates a look for the answers.–
