Chicago – June 3, 2020 – Total Living Network to air NEW special THE BREAKING POINT: Policing & Race in the United States

The video of George Floyd, an African American man, being asphyxiated by white police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, MN has been seen throughout the world. His death has ignited protests, demonstrations and violent rioting around the U.S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a proponent of change through non-violence did note that “In the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? … it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality and humanity.”

In The Breaking Point: Policing & Race in the U.S., TLN guests Michael Eaddy, Senior Pastor of the People’s Church of the Harvest in Garfield Park, and Rev. Alvin Bibbs, CEO and President of the Justice Journey Alliance discuss the racial tensions that have led to the social unrest the U.S. is experiencing country-wide. As a current member of the Chicago Police Board, where he served for a time alongside current Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot, Pastor Eaddy brings context and experience to the issues of policing and race and explains why many in uniform act as they do. The Justice Journey Alliance’s vision is to reach an ever-increasing population of people divided by race and injustice. As its leader, Rev. Bibbs speaks regularly on the issues of race and equality and urges all to understand, as Dr. King proclaimed, that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

TLN President Debra Fraser hosts the special and said, “I couldn’t ask for better guests to help us navigate the difficult times and painful circumstances we’re in right now across the country.” The Breaking Point: Policing & Race in the U.S., will air on TLN on Wednesday June 3 at 8pm CT, Friday June 5 at 7:00pm CT and Sunday, June 7 at 5:30pm CT. The special will also air on TLNWest on Wednesday June 3 at 8pm PT, Friday June 5 at 7:00pm PT and Sunday, June 7 at 5:30pm PT.
