FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 17, 2020

It was announced today by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois that an agreement has been reached with ComEd where the energy company will pay a $200 Million fine and cooperate “fully and truthfully” with federal prosecutors in the ongoing bribery scheme investigation involving government officials. Today, it was announced that ComEd admitted to “Arranging Jobs and Contracts for Political Allies of High-Level State of Illinois Official.”

Cook County Republican Party Chairman Sean Morrison made the following statement this afternoon regarding today’s announcement by federal officials as well as the news report of the ongoing investigation into the property tax fraud scheme involving Governor J.B. Pritzker:
“What we’ve heard today is nothing new to the residents of our great state. We are all too familiar with widespread government corruption and now we see that it walks hand-in-hand with private sector companies.

A massive corporation like ComEd exploiting their influence and position in the marketplace through bribery and the cooperation of corrupt elected officials and their associates. I think it’s time for “Public Official A” to publicly address these allegations. It’s absolutely shameful and another dark day for the state of Illinois. As for Governor Pritzker and his property tax fraud scheme, it is just another example of how Democrats have a total disregard for the laws, regulations and rules that exist for everyone else but them!

I look forward to the U.S. Attorney’s Office continuing its vigorous efforts to root out public corruption at all levels of government throughout Illinois.”
