It is time to save IllinoisAnnouncement Tom McCullagh Leads With Action

What went from a normal campaign year turned into —– 2020 —a literal dumpster fire of a year.

But what COVID did do was allow me to show my true colors, character, and enabled me to do what I love to do—- Which is helping others.
JJC , a local community College, provided a platform for our team along with Eric Allen to produce well over 30,000 mask shields for nurses, doctors, firefighters, paramedics, and police.

We hand delivered shields to hospitals and went into COVID wards to make sure the nurses and doctors who needed them the most…… got them… It was one of the most rewarding feelings being able to see the looks of gratitude on their faces—- all the while I expecting to get sick and possibly die from a disease we knew little about in March. Now– well we all know better.

BUT LETS KEEP SHUTTING DOWN THE STATE—–anyways During the critical mask shield initiative helping seniors get their food from grocery stores, and delivering food donations to families with at risk children who could not leave the house………. was equally rewarding.

Working with local charities and local colleges to find nurses who were alumni I launched an equally critical initiative to mail or hand deliver them gift cards to give them a night free from cooking……. So they could spend quality time with their families- just a small thank you for the sacrifices they are making.

PTSD is a serious problem, especially among our vets. As an executive director with k9s for veterans, using service animals, we’ve brought essential therapy to ease the pain of dealing with trauma…… including victims of sexual trauma……. This is but one of many charity groups I am proud to serve.  When the riots started I was as shocked as all of you to see the terrible and tragic scene as a man was murdered on camera.

The outrage was justified, the riots were not. When the riots were at their peak and people called for officers to be slain and cast from society something had to be done. When no one acted I called on my friends, my neighbors, my community to join me at the SHOCKINGLY first police rally in Illinois during the onset of the riots.

The rally was in Plainfield, in June……… during the height of the riots……… I did not wait for Polling to tell me it was a good idea. as a matter of fact I was told that masks were polling higher than police.  I aimed to change that, because doing what’s right should always take precedence over popularity.  Action is necessary, even when being at risk of being called racist, unsympathetic or callous. In a downpour, over 150 cars came out to support our police and a movement was born.

Working with local leaders from all over Illinois  we collectively organized numerous rallies across Chicago and Illinois…. all in support of the police…………. We didn’t stick to “safe zones”. ……….We go where our law enforcement is under the most threat, even speaking at the Chicago back the blue rally, where the Columbus statue once stood.

THIS IS THE SAME PLACE WHERE OFFICERS STOOD FOR HOURS AND HOURS GETTING BOTTLES THROWN AT THEM, ROCKS HITTING THEM, LASERS IN THE EYES, FIREWORKS IN THEIR FACES, AND BROKEN BONES. THEN THE MAYOR REMOVED THE STATUE IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT, DISGRACING THOSE OFFICERS WHO SACRIFICED SO MUCH

While speaking at the rally in Chicago I witnessed with my own eyes the meaning of the thin blue line….. Before us was a sea of counter protestors….. Yet between them and us was a single thin blue line of police helmets, the embodiment of that expression.

The looks of appreciation from the officers are looks that I will personally never forget. As a nation, we have a media problem …. not a police problem. I WILL ALWAYS DEFEND THE POLICE AND NOT DEFUND THE POLICE. WE ARE A NATION OF LAWS.

SEND ME TO SPRINGFIELD TO LEGISLATE SAFEGUARDS TO ENSURE OUR PROTECTORS ARE PROTECTED THEMSELVES.   SEND ME TO SPRINGFIELD TO battle the Corrupt Madigan and Chicago Machines.  Unwavering, I will stand tall, unshaken and fly our flag for the people to see. Join me in this fight.
