Illinois’ destructive policies leave black residents behind
Illinois’ progressive and equity-focused policies – among the nation’s most extreme – have long inflicted harm on the state’s minorities, particularly its black residents. If those policies were meant to make blacks and whites more equal, national employment and Census data show they’ve utterly failed.Illinois’ black unemployment rate is the nation’s 2nd-highest, at 10.5 percent.Illinois has the nation’s worst black/white unemployment gap: 7.2 percentage points.Illinois’ black poverty rate is three times the rate of whites, making it the 6th-worst gap of any state in the nation.Illinois black household incomes are only 54 percent of white incomes – the nation’s 3rd-worst gap behind only Louisiana and Wisconsin.

From Wirepoints

Gov. Pritzker has boasted more than once that Illinois is the nation’s “most progressive state and proud of it,” as if the policies enacted by him and his fellow Democrats over the past years and decades – from affirmative action in hiring, to race-based social spending to guaranteed income programs and much more – are proof that Illinois is living up to the ideals of “equity” between whites and blacks.

The actual results on jobs, poverty and income show exactly the opposite. More handouts, programs and spending at the expense of real jobs and natural investment has only exacerbated racial gaps in Illinois.

To fix this, we recommend Gov. Pritzker start with Illinois’ broken public education system. To be truly “anti-racist,” educators should actually teach black kids how to read.
