Mustang Buddies “step up” to ease fears
Take soon-to-be middle schoolers on tour of school
Transitioning from elementary school to middle school can be a little scary.
To help ease fears and prepare students for the “big move,” Hadley Middle
School students have been taking groups of fourth-graders on a tour of their
school this week.

“You will do a lot of cool things in here,” a Hadley fifth-grader told a group
of students from Young School on Thursday (May 18).
Students visited the school library, STEAM lab, multi-purpose room (where
lunch is served), gymnasium, chorus room, art rooms and main office. They
also saw where the bathrooms are located and where they may be meeting
with the school’s speech therapists, occupational therapists and counselors.
Every year, the Mustang Buddies take the lead on Step Up Day and show
incoming 5th graders what to expect in middle school. They show them
around the school (which is significantly larger than their grade schools) and
answer questions they have about middle school life. hadley step up day 052.JPG
The goal is to make students more comfortable with the move from grade
school to middle school.
“We want to help take away the anxiety,” said Hadley Middle School
Principal Kristen Schroeder. “We want to get them excited about coming
here.”

Jeff Sessions wants all those prisons full

Jeff Sessions wants all those prisons full

Attorney General Jeff Sessions just reminded the country that he wants the failed War on Drugs to be the centerpiece of his Justice Department policy. The top law official on Friday directed prosecutors to seek the maximum penalty possible even for the lowest level drug offenders.
“It is a core principle that prosecutors should charge and pursue the most serious, readily provable offense,” Sessions said in a memo.
The AG said his maneuver is simply an attempt to return to a DOJ policy mandated by Congress .
“We are returning to the enforcement of the laws as passed by Congress, plain and simple,” Sessions said in a speech announcing the change. “If you are a drug trafficker, we will not look the other way, we will not be willfully blind to your misconduct.”

Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM) immediately responded to the AG’s decision.
“While we appreciate the attorney general’s commitment to reducing crime and combating dangerous opioid abuse, we think his strategy is misguided, unsupported by evidence, and likely to do more harm than good,” FAMM said. “Indeed, the drug epidemic challenging our country today is a devastating indictment of the one-size-fits-all punishment regime that General Sessions seeks to expand. His charging memo throws decades of improved techniques and technologies out of the window in favor of a failed approach.”
Former Attorney General Eric Holder also responded to his predecessor’s move.
“The policy announced today is not tough on crime,” Holder said. “It’s an ideologically motivated, cookie-cutter approach that has only been proven to generate unfairly long sentences that are often applied indiscriminately and do little to achieve long-term public safety.”
Holder’s memo to undo certain mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines was one of the few Obama Justice Department policies championed by small government conservatives.

Chairman’s Comments

Conservative author and speaker, Ann Coulter, is just the latest victim of the hateful leftists in this country. Ann was going to give a speech at Berkley, supposedly the ‘birthplace and home of free speech’ in this country. With threatened riots (not just protests) and the Mayor saying he could not guarantee her safety, she finally had to cancel at the last moment. It was later discovered that the Mayor is associated with extreme hate groups. If he wanted her to speak, he could have gotten enough police to ensure order. This is in addition to the forty-two times that a conservative speaker had to cancel their scheduled speech in 2016. Guess how many times a liberal speaker had to be cancelled for security reasons…..NONE!!!
In Portland Oregon, protesters shattered business windows, set bonfires in the streets and vandalized a police car on Monday, May Day, afternoon as a May Day protest devolved into a short-lived but chaotic riot. It began as a city-permitted march, but ultimately black-clad leftists Fascists protesters wearing masks, started fires and doing major property damage. Police declared it a riot. Officers used flash-bang grenades to disperse the crowd arresting 25 people. Windows were broken in many buildings including Target and Brooks Brothers.  I hope President Trump will make sure that the Justice Department will ensure these rioters get federal charges and finally get these riots stopped. This anarchy is in large part funded by Self-professed Nazi war criminal George Soros. He continues to go free while radicalizing American politics and society. There is a strategy to take him down by first openly identifying the over 200 organizations he owns and funds. They are created to sabotage the United States.       Meanwhile here in Chicago, more than 1,000 people have been shot so far this year, and the city has had nearly 200 murders, but Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said he saw some good news in April’s crime statistics. Shootings were down 13 percent for the first four months of the year, compared to the same time in 2016. While shootings were down, murders in April were up 80%. So the shooters are getting better at aiming. I guess that what he is happy about.
Despite predictions earlier, firearm sales are moving up once again.  The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) shows March numbers 10% higher than January and 9% higher than February of this year.
Obama stopped the transfer of US military guns back to the USA while president. He wanted them all destroyed.  But now, thanks to Trump, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will be getting 86,000 M1 Garands from overseas sometime this year. There are many collectors and shooters who will be thrilled to have one of these historic firearms. To buy one of these or any other firearm from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, you need to be a member of a club or organization that is affiliated with the CMP.  The Illinois State Rifle Association is an affiliate.
Last week, Iowa gun rights got a bonanza when Iowa House File 517 was signed into law.  Among the provisions of HF517 are: stand your ground, immunity from civil liability if you have to shoot an aggressor to stop them, state wide preemption, the ability to carry in the Iowa Capitol building, and granting a citizen the ability to sue those who establish “gun free zones” if those citizens believe their civil rights have been violated.  Very nice.

Many of you know that SB1657 – a terrible bill to curtail retail firearm sales passed the senate and now moves on to the Illinois House for concurrence.  If SB1657 is passed into law:
1. Hundreds of shooting sports entrepreneurs will be forced out of business. Among them are gun shops, ranges and gunsmiths.
2.  Increased dealer overhead costs linked to the cost of compliance with the bill will raise the retail price of new guns by up to $300 or more.  Essentially, this bill places a tax on your Constitutional rights.
3.  It will be illegal for you to sell your gun collection of more than 9 guns without getting a state license.
4. Anyone who purchases a firearm will be subjected to warrantless electronic surveillance by the authorities.  Additionally, personal information of all gun buyers will be gathered and electronically indexed by state agencies.
The primary sponsor of SB1657 is Senator Don Harmon.  Harmon is a left-wing, radical anti-constitutionalist whose district is in Oak Park. He takes his instructions – and quite a bit of money – from former NYC mayor, Michael Bloomberg.  Bloomberg has assigned Harmon with the task of dismantling private firearm ownership in Illinois.  The Bloomberg/Harmon team will succeed in stripping you of your rights if you do not stand up and take action.
Bartenders at a West Village hot spot in Boston served up discrimination — with a liberal twist — refusing to serve a customer because he was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, according to a lawsuit.  An accountant from Philadelphia was kicked out by workers at The Happiest Hour on West 10th Street over his conservative fashion statement.  “Anyone who supports Trump — or believes what you believe — is not welcome here! And you need to leave right now because we won’t serve you!”
Five-year-old Caitlin Miller and several of her classmates were playing make-believe last week on the playground at McLauchlin Elementary School in North Carolina. One of her friends was pretending to be a queen and another was pretending to be a princess. Caitlin was their protector. And in order to protect the Royals, she armed herself with a stick that resembled a gun. Within minutes, the five-year-old was snatched up by a teacher and sent to the principal’s office, promptly suspended and accused of a heinous offense of, “turning a stick into a gun and threatening to shoot and kill other students.” “The assistant principal said Caitlin had a stick and she was using it to shoot and kill other students,” she said. Mrs. Miller said the entire incident has been blown way out of context. Mrs. Miller said she had to sit down with her daughter and explain why her make-believe fun was against school policy. “It was gut-wrenching for me. She’s innocent. She’s young. She should be five and have fun.”
With leftists increasingly turning to violence to try to get their way, and with the likes of Soros and Bloomberg using their enormous sums of money to try to eliminate guns and our civil rights, it is becoming more important than ever to do all we can to protect our rights. If Clinton had gotten to be president we would be even worse off and in a little over three years, in all likelihood, there will be another extreme anti-gun (anti-rights) person running against Trump; and, if they win, all we gained will be gone in a heartbeat. So now for the immediate concern of SB1657, call your representative and politely, but strongly, express your support of gun rights and your opposition to this terrible bill. For the long run, support those legislators who support your rights, both financially and in any other way you are able. Your future rights depend upon it. The antis are dramatically upping the ante with literally millions of dollars and they’re getting better organized.

Senate Bill 9’s tax on home repairs would fall hardest on Illinois’ middle-class and senior residents.

Illinois Senate proposal would tax home repairs
Senate Bill 9’s tax on home repairs would fall hardest on Illinois’ middle-class and senior residents.
Members of the home building industry say Senate Bill 9’s tax on home repairs would fall hardest on Illinois’ middle-class and senior residents.

An amendment to a bill currently sitting in the Illinois Senate would add another tax: this time, on home repairs. The legislation, Senate Bill 9, was one of the revenue-grabbing components of the so-called “grand bargain” budget proposal. The amendments to SB 9 contain a large package of new taxes and tax hikes, including taxes on internet streaming services such as Netflix, laundry services, landscaping, manicures and a host of other services and products.
Sponsored by state Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Olympia Fields, SB 9 and its subsequent amendments have gained considerable support among the Senate leadership of bothparties, but have not yet gained enough support from rank-and-file senators.
Industry experts have voiced concern over the proposal, citing it as convoluted, hard to enforce and overly expensive. The Home Builders Association of Illinois opposes Hutchinson’s proposed tax and claims that it would cost 521 jobs, $47 million in reduced home repair and maintenance work, and a nearly $8 million reduction in revenue for state and local coffers.
Home Builders Association Vice President Bill Ward claimed the bill would hurt senior citizens and lower income residents.
“Senior citizens and other homeowners on limited income will be forced to forego needed repair work on their homes,” Ward said.
“Homes hit by fire and storm damage will be the hardest hit by this tax,” Ward said, according to The State Journal-Register. “On $20,000 damage to a home, the tax will amount to $1,250 in home repair work.”
Hutchinson’s proposed tax on home repairs would be yet another cost for Illinois’ middle class. Illinois homeowners already pay some of the highest property taxes in the country and carry one of the most expensive overall tax burdens in the nation.
The last thing homeowners need is a new tax on a basic service. And like property taxes, a tax on home repairs would also hurt senior citizens in Illinois, many of whom live on a fixed income.
The proposed home repair tax would also serve as yet another disincentive for buying a home in Illinois. The Land of Lincoln is undergoing a severe out-migration crisis, especially among prime working-age residents. From July 2015 to July 2016, Illinois’ population contracted by 37,500 residents due to out-migration, giving the Prairie State the worst population loss in the country. High taxes around home ownership such as property taxes and Hutchinson’s proposed home repair tax serve as further discouragement for people seeking to put down roots in Illinois. A poll released in October 2016 by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute showed that nearly half of Illinois residents wanted to leave the state, and of those who wanted to leave, taxes were the No. 1 reason.
Though currently shelved in the Senate Assignments Committee, SB 9’s amendments, with its slew of new taxes and tax hikes, is by no means off the table. Many in Springfield would like to see the tax-laden proposal become law, eager for fresh revenue to feed the state’s cost drivers. SB 9 and all its tax hikes should be thrown out for good, and lawmakers should embrace taxpayer-friendly reforms that will actually encourage people to live, work and retire in Illinois.

Comey foes, privacy fighters: Director’s firing ‘troubling’

Comey foes, privacy fighters: Director’s firing ‘troubling’

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a leading voice against the FBI’s repeated attempts to further violate American communication privacy, is calling for an investigation into its favorite foe’s firing.
The group said in a statement:

The FBI is the country’s top law enforcement agency and serves the public, not the president. As defenders of the rule of law, we have deep concerns about President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey. We disagreed with the director on many issues, including his consistent push for backdoors into our electronic communications and devices and a general weakening of encryption, which is crucial to protecting Americans’ privacy and security. But we are deeply troubled about Director Comey’s termination and what it says about the independence of the office and its ability to conduct fair investigations, including into threats to our digital security and the integrity of our elections. The next FBI director must be a strong, independent voice for the Constitution and the public interest.

Given the current climate at the Department of Justice, however, a new FBI director with respect for the Constitution is highly unlikely.
As Recode pointed out:

Trump’s attorney general, for example, similarly has criticized Apple for its strong defense of encryption. While Jeff Sessions represented Alabama in the U.S. Senate in 2015, he also voted against a law that reined in some of the National Security Agency’s surveillance powers.
A year later, Sessions sought in Congress to expand the FBI’s ability to collect information like web browsing histories during emergency cases without first requiring a warrant. That ultimately failed. But the larger privacy debate — whether law enforcement should have to obtain warrants to access Americans’ oldest emails for their investigations — remains an unsolved issue on Capitol Hill.
There’s also Mike Pompeo, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Trump, who similarly sits in opposition to the tech and civil-liberties crowds. An Army officer who later served in the House of Representatives, Pompeo regularly — and vocally — opposed efforts to curtail U.S. surveillance authorities. And Trump’s director of national intelligence, former Sen. Dan Coats, similarly has voted against surveillance reform.

Fake News NO PROOF of latest Trump attack by media that no longer reports facts

Putin sounds off on Trump-Russia meeting, ‘political schizophrenia’ of US

SOCHI, Russia, May 17 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump had not passed on any secrets to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a meeting in Washington last week and that he could prove it.
Speaking at a news conference alongside Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin quipped that Lavrov was remiss for not passing on what he made clear he believed were non-existent secrets.
“I spoke to him (Lavrov) today,” said Putin with a smile. “I’ll be forced to issue him with a reprimand because he did not share these secrets with us. Not with me, nor with representatives of Russia’s intelligence services. It was very bad of him.”

Trump meets with Lavrov and Kislyak

Putin, who said Moscow rated Lavrov’s meeting with Trump “highly,” said Russia was ready to hand a transcript of Trump’s meeting with Lavrov over to U.S. lawmakers if that would help reassure them.
A Kremlin aide, Yuri Ushakov, later told reporters that Moscow had in its possession a written record of the conversation, not an audio recording.
Complaining about what he said were signs of “political schizophrenia” in the United States, Putin said Trump was not being allowed to do his job properly.
“It’s hard to imagine what else can these people who generate such nonsense and rubbish can dream up next,” said Putin.

“What surprises me is that they are shaking up the domestic political situation using anti-Russian slogans. Either they don’t understand the damage they’re doing to their own country, in which case they are simply stupid, or they understand everything, in which case they are dangerous and corrupt.”
Two U.S. officials said on Monday that Trump had disclosed highly classified information to Lavrov about a planned Islamic State operation, plunging the White House into another controversy just months into Trump’s short tenure in office.
Russia has repeatedly said that anti-Russian politicians in the United States are using groundless fears of closer ties with Moscow to sabotage any rapprochement and damage Trump in the process. letter to the editor regarding Clinton emails and Comey

0

Kathleen Konicki Response to Article by Mark Moore
In an article published May 14th, Mark Moore reported on former FBI Asst. Dir. John Kallstrom’s criticism of Comey’s conclusion that, while Clinton had been “extremely careless”, she had not violated the law.  Kallstrom decried the conclusion that Clinton, with her background, did not know she had to protect highly classified information.  He’s right, of course, but that’s old territory and misses other material.

Clinton was using private email to skirt the Freedom of Information Act and laws pertaining to the preservation of federal records  She deleted emails by the hundreds of thousands.  Her subversive use of private email was unlawful in intent and purpose, whether or not information was classified.
Further, her emails were subpoenaed.  She would have had to sign an affidavit that her production was complete with the request, and she had to turn over not only emails in her actual possession but also those in her constructive possession, that is, those in her possession or control.   Please don’t tell me you believe that Clinton didn’t know about Abedin’s back-up system.  Prove it?  Clinton had a duty to inquire about such things before telling the FBI that the emails had been deleted and no longer existed anywhere.  The duty to inquire is standard law.  The law is not an ass, ladies and gentlemen.  It imposes a duty to conduct reasonable inquiry.
Hiding emails is obstruction of justice and lying on an affidavit is perjury.  We were never supposed to find out about the emails on Abedin’s back-up system, and we never would have found out about them, if Abedin hadn’t been stupid enough to marry the likes of Weiner.  Clinton was given a “pass”  by the FBI on the classified issue, with Comey publicly defending her by saying that only a relatively small number of emails contained classified material.
How nice of you, Mr.  Comey.  And good riddance to you.  Maybe now, with Comey gone, Clinton will face charges of obstruction of justice and perjury.

Former FBI official says promotion of interim director is ‘disgraceful’

May 14, 2017 | 4:22pm | Updated
Former top FBI official James Kallstrom said on Sunday that it’s “disgraceful” that Andrew McCabe is the acting director of the agency despite his wife’s cozy relationship to Hillary Clinton operatives.
“It’s actually disgraceful,” Kallstrom, the former assistant director of the FBI, told John Catsimatidis on his “Cats Roundtable” radio program. “Here’s a guy who’s still in the chain of command.”
McCabe, who took over as acting FBI director when President Trump fired James Comey last week, is married to Jill McCabe who took $467,500 from Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s political action committee during her run for state senate.
She also received $207,788 from the Virginia Democratic Party, which is heavily influenced by Clinton loyalist McAuliffe.
The funds began flowing to Jill McCabe two months after the FBI launched its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server in July 2015.
At that time, Andrew McCabe was promoted from running the bureau’s Washington field office to the No. 3 position at the FBI. She eventually lost to her GOP opponent.
“And Comey lets all this pass. He doesn’t do a thing about it. It’s an outrage,” Kallstrom said. “Today’s he’s the acting director and I hope in two or three days he’s no longer the acting director because he has no judgment. And it just shows that Comey has no common sense.”
Kallstrom also said Trump was right in dumping the former director.
“He had to go. And I am glad he went. And I think the president did exactly what he should do,” Kallstrom said.
He said Comey did a number of “foolish things,” but the worst was announcing last July that while Hillary Clinton was “extremely careless” in her handling of classified information, she did not intend to violate the law and shouldn’t be charged criminally.
” T hat’s just preposterous that this woman who spent eight years in the White House … was a senator, was secretary of state did not know you had to protect highly classified information. It’s just a farce,” said Kallstrom, who also headed up the FBI New York City office in the mid-1990s.
He said the “vast, vast majority” of FBI employees were offended by Comey’s handling of the investigation and the only way to restore the agency is to find a talented, skillful director.
“I think we just have to have a strong leader, he said. “Somebody with integrity, somebody that has an investigative background, somebody who has proven leadership that can inspire people to do the work.”

Returns to the classroom to fill in for a teacher who wins
Appreciation Week raffle
It takes a lot of heart, soul and effort to be a teacher.
To show her appreciation, Homer 33C Superintendent Kara Coglianese held
a raffle this month, offering one lucky teacher an opportunity to take the
afternoon off while she filled in for them in the classroom.

“This is just a small gesture to let all of you know how much I appreciate
the hard work that you do every day for our students and families,” she told
teachers as she announced the raffle during Teacher Appreciation Week.
More than 60 teachers took her up on the offer and eagerly entered the
raffle.teacher appreciation raffle 058.JPG
On May 5, as Teachers Union Representative Cathy Clayton looked on,
Coglianese drew the winning name using a computerized random number
generator.teacher appreciation raffle 072.JPG
It selected Schilling School kindergarten teacher Megan Ondreja, who
surrendered her class of 24 kindergartners (11 boys and 13 girls) to
Coglianese on May 12.
She made sure the class didn’t miss a beat, reviewing detailed lesson plans
with the “substitute” the day before and inviting her to spend time with the
students so that they could become better acquainted with her.
“I know she was very busy,” said Ondreja, “as I left her full detailed plans
(as I would any other substitute in my classroom).”
Coglianese reported to duty shortly after noon on Friday, May 12.
While Ondreja left to enjoy the free afternoon, Coglianese accompanied
students to the lunchroom and then playground.
I
t took no time for the kindergartners to warm up to the Superintendent,
who once taught first, fourth and fifth grade. One youngster asked her to
help him tie his shoe. Another asked her to intervene when a classmate kept
chasing a group of girls.
“If you don’t run, he won’t chase you,” she advised the three girls.
At 12:55 p.m., the group returned to the classroom to resume their
studies, which included a biology lesson on stems and plant growth and a
geometry lesson on three-dimensional shapes and sequencing.
“Be sure to raise your hand,” she told students as they gathered around
her for their first lesson. “I want to hear what you have to say.”
Each time she asked a question about plant stems, leaves or roots, hands
shot up in the air.
The enthusiasm continued as she asked students to identify various
geometrical shapes, including triangles, squares and circles.
“I’m so impressed with what’s going on at the kindergarten level and how
much the children have learned in one year,” she said.
By the end of the day, Coglianese was ready for a little R&R.
“I’m looking forward to going home and putting my feet up,” she
confessed.
