Homer 33C invites students/parents to schools for Open House

Homer School District 33C students and their parents will have an opportunity to visit their schools before the start of the 2016-17 school year. Each school has set aside an Open House day.

Homer CCSD 33C students and their parents will have an opportunity to visit their schools before the start of the 2016-17 school year.

Each school will host an Open House in August. Homer Junior High School students should dress appropriately as they will have their fall portraits taken at the Open House.

“Starting a new school year is always an exciting time,” said Superintendent Kara Coglianese. “We want everyone to enjoy the experience and feel comfortable that first day back so they can start the year with confidence.”

The Open House schedule is as follows:

  • Schilling (Kindergarten Center), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 15
  • Young EC/Early Learners, 1-3 p.m. Aug. 15
  • Young (Grades 1-4), 1-3 p.m. Aug. 15
  • Schilling (Grades 1-4), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 16
  • Butler, 9-11 a.m. Aug. 16
  • Goodings Grove, 9-11 a.m. Aug. 17

The open houses are informal, giving parents and students a chance to walk through the buildings at their own pace and get acquainted with their classrooms.

A more formal orientation program is scheduled for students at Hadley Middle School and Homer Junior High School. Those orientation programs are scheduled for the following times:

  • Hadley Middle School (by teams)

Pink/Green Teams: 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 17
Gray/Yellow Teams: Noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 17
Red/Crimson Teams: 1-2 p.m. Aug. 17
Indigo/Blue Team: 2-3 p.m. Aug. 17

  • Homer Junior High 7th-graders and “new” 8th-graders (by first initial of last name)

A-L: 1 -2 p.m. p.m. Aug. 16
M-Z: 5-6 p.m. Aug. 16
** Returning 8th-graders are invited to visit the school with their parents between 2 and 4 p.m. Aug. 16.  All junior high students will have their fall portraits taken at the Open House.

Homer Junior High School students and their parents are asked to enter the building through the main entrance where they will pick up their class schedule before proceeding.

“New” students, including incoming 7th-graders and 8th-graders who are new to the district, will be directed to the gymnasium for a brief presentation on dress code and school expectations. Afterward, they will have an opportunity to tour the building, find their classes, practice their hallway locker combinations and purchase gym uniforms or other Homer Junior High items.

Eighth-grade students who are not new to the district need not attend the orientation program in the gymnasium. They may tour the building and find their lockers after picking up their class schedules at the main entrance. Gym uniforms also will be available for purchase.

All junior high students, whether they are new to the district or not, will have their fall portraits taken and student I.D. cards issued at the Open House on Aug. 16.

While families are asked to adhere to the assigned orientation times, there will be some flexibility with Homer’s schedule.

“If it is not convenient for you and your family to attend the assigned orientation time, you may attend the other session,” said Homer Junior High Principal Troy Mitchell.
