CONSTITUTIONAL CONVERSATIONS

Miss Constitution Takes the Gloves Off

by

Miss Constitution was watching an episode of The Crown in which the elder Winston Churchill explains to the young monarch that when political operatives or the public see her, they must always see “the eternal.”  What a wonderful statement.  Miss Constitution would say the same thing about the Supreme Positive Law of our land – we must always see it as the constant first principle, as that which binds us to the eternal struggle for liberty against the inherent nature of humankind and its inclination to corruption and abuse of power.  The current Queen lamented that she could not be a “regular” person as Queen and would forever, or at least for her lifetime, be saddled with the notion of the “eternal” and her representation of it.  She has carried that burden magnificently.

We, too, as Sovereigns of a great nation, have the burden of keeping the Constitution of the United States, and its promise of liberty, impartial legal justice, and equal opportunity for all, an eternal beacon the world can use to light a pathway to a better life for all.  We’d rather be watching football, Miss Constitution knows, but we must rise to the sacred despite our inclination to let someone else handle these messy and indelicate things.  Miss Constitution, for one, has had enough of the Democrat Party (and some Republicans) and its efforts to negate forever the eternal notion of a peaceful transfer of power so essential to our system.  This effort is as important as those brave young men who left the Higgins boats on the beaches of Normandy to their sure deaths.  If our Constitution is eviscerated there is nothing left of the eternal to rise to; of the eternal to respect and admire; of the eternal to contrast to our semi-ethical lives and self-centered interests.  Miss Constitution does not want to take her gloves off but off they come.

Here is what has happened:

*Once Donald Trump became the candidate of the Republican Party for the Presidency a plot was hatched within the bureaucracy and guided by high elected officials to de-rail his efforts to win the election

*Having unexpectedly won the Presidential election, a further plot was hatched by the same people and joined by some Republicans to discredit him and destroy his ability to govern

*Calls for impeachment of this President came before he had even taken the Oath of Office and attempts to remove him, and his inner circle, began in earnest

*Illegal surveillance by the intelligence and investigatory branches was conducted under the guise of thwarting a conspiracy between the President-elect and Russia, including the tactic of trying to get an “excited utterance” out of the President by the head of the FBI by claiming that salacious allegations of sexual misconduct were now under investigation (an “excited utterance” is an exception to the hearsay rule and the statement is considered true as second-hand because it is said quickly without time to think)

*Members of the President’s team were unceremoniously arrested; held in solitary confinement; and otherwise physically intimidated in order to get important players to either throw the President under the bus or retreat from the field – the Attorney General became too frightened to function

*the Attorney General’s replacement named a special prosecutor to investigate the alleged conspiracy between Russia and the President and the special prosecutor named only enemies of the President to his team of investigators

*No conspiracy was found despite endless subpoenas, witness testimony, public money, and extreme hostility to the President and his family and appointments

*Inspectors General of the various executive branches began independent investigations and have issued scathing reports of bureaucratic misconduct

*In contemplation of further investigations regarding the plot against a sitting President by some of the bureaucracy and high-elected Democrat and Republican office-holders, a CIA whistleblower has just emerged with lawyer-written allegations of corruption by the President regarding a telephone call to the leader of Ukraine asking for help in finding out that country’s participation in the original plot against the President and his campaign, his transition team, and his administration

*The whistleblower admitted no first-hand knowledge of the call; first-hand knowledge, which was a requirement of a whistleblower, was suddenly changed bureaucratically to allow hearsay or second-hand sources to determine credibility; second-hand sources included unverified hostile media reports

*The President released this classified telephone conversation and released the whistleblower allegations to the public so that the Sovereign can read them directly

*The Speaker of the House has decided, without a vote in the House of Representatives, to open an official impeachment inquiry; a vote of the whole House has always been required

*The Speaker of the House is calling for the recusal of the new Attorney General in hopes he will exit the playing field, as did his predecessor, out of personal fear

This is where we are as a nation. The “eternal”, the Constitution of the United
States, is under lethal attack and must be protected for our own sakes and that of our progeny.  The system cannot survive this; what the Constitution represents will never emerge again; anyone responsible for this should be removed from public trust by the People of the United States or imprisoned accordingly or both.  It is hard being Sovereigns; it is hard being Queen; can we rise to it as she has?
